Within an ancient rainforest, step into the cool, crystal-clear water and drift with the current as you explore life under the water’s surface. Watch fish dart in and around the river stones and keep your eyes out for the occasional turtle.

This family friendly tour is the perfect way to stay cool in the hot tropics. A great introduction to snorkelling before heading out to the reefs. Small children (and adults) can journey down the river on large river sleds.

An amazing eco-immersion adventure thats different every time; Sometimes it’s fast and exciting, other times slow and relaxing.

"Had an amazing morning in Mossman cruising down the river snorkelling and floating on our raft. Saw some amazing fish and even a turtle. Mark and Wayne were awesome and made the experience easy and enjoyable. Would highly recommend these guys."

What animals can I see?

As you float through one of the cleanest rivers in Australia, keep an eye out for:

  • Saw-shelled turtles
  • Over 33 species of fish
  • Eastern Water Dragons
  • Colourful birds like the Azure Kingfisher
  • Electric blue butterflies
  • Frogs and tadpoles

What about crocodiles?!?

You should always be Croc-wise in Croc country; that is why you can rest assured that our tour operates in a very safe, Croc-Free stretch of water.

Crocodiles use the water, sun and shade to maintain their preferred body temperature of 30–33°C.

Where we swim is too clear, too cold (16-22°C), and too shaded for crocodiles.

The cool water is one reason we provide you with a very fashionable wetsuit to use during your tour.

If you want to see crocodiles in the wild, join our Daintree Adventure Day tour

Back Country Bliss proudly supports Rainforest Rescue in their efforts to protect the Daintree Rainforest.

Who are Rainforest Rescue?

Rainforest Rescue are a non-for-profit organisation with the goal of protecting rainforests forever. The organisation has been protecting and preserving rainforests both in Australia and across the globe since 1998.

What are they doing to help the Daintree Rainforest?

  • Planted more than 50,000 trees in the Daintree.
  • As part of their Buy Back program, Rainforest Rescue has contributed to the long-term protection of 31 properties within the Daintree. Their goal is to buy back 180 properties within the Daintree by 2030.
  • Protecting the home of the Southern Cassowary. Protecting this species is extremely important, as it is estimated that 70-100 plant species depend on the cassowary for seed dispersal.
  • By working with academics, universities and research institutions, Rainforest Rescue has assisted researchers in gaining a greater understanding of the Daintree, and consequently, best practice on how to protect it.
  • Preventing harmful runoff to the Great Barrier Reef from the Daintree’s waterways.

How you can help

For every $5 donated, Rainforest Rescue are able to protect 1 square metre of the Daintree Rainforest. A $30 donation will plant and maintain three rainforest trees for two years. Donations are tax deductible.

The water temperature varies between 16-22C (60-71F) year round.  We provide an extra thermal layer during winter, gloves are also available to use.

How long does the tour go for?

From Port Doulgas, the tour takes approx. 3.5 return including transfers.

We aim to spend up to 2 hours in the river, but this can vary based on group size. Smaller groups may finish earlier, based on reduced time taken for pickups/getting ready.
